LEARN ABOUT
OUR HISTORY
THE BEGINNING
New Edge was founded out of a response following a tumultuous year that was 2020. During a 9 month period between March and November 2020, my family endured the abrupt and very unexpected loss of my dad, along with the news that my wife was pregnant with our third child, after not having our last child for a span of eight years. A few months later, my wife lost her job of 17 years. All this, while traveling between South Dakota and Nebraska to tend to the close of my dad’s small sand-hill estate.
FOUND INSPIRATION
I grew up watching my dad in his machine shop creating all sorts of things; knives, obsolete car parts for collectors, one-of-a-kind tools, and many other items only his creative mind could conjure up.
Learning from hands-on experience and a bit of hereditary interest, I have worked with many types of metal and numerous intricate techniques involved to put a fine cutting edge on many types of cutting implements, especially knives.
NEW EDGE IS BORN
Combining my experience learning and working with my dad in his machine shop along with my own observations of a needed service in the Brookings and Sioux Falls areas, I decided to set out with a goal to put my skills and passions that ran in my family to good use. Those skills and passions are what became New Edge Precision Sharpening LLC.
THE NEXT STEP
In 2021, I reconnected with a great friend from my past who shares my passion to work with our hands and provide valuable quality services to our communities. Will Sechser and I have been friends since high school. He also comes from a shop pedigree as he grew up watching and working with his dad to build, fix, and maintain just about anything. We are blessed to be on this journey together.
We look forward to serving our communities and providing a needed and undervalued service.
